Gutter Clearing

Gutters are an integral piece of your home’s well being. They serve to control the flow of rainwater to protect your roof, walls, foundation and landscape. But when neglected, gutters can turn from a necessity to a nightmare. 

Below is a list of issues that can arise from a leaking gutter;

• Damage to the roof - guttering allows the rain water to drain from the roof tiles, any blockage could cause the water to pool in specific area's, causing leaks in your roof.

• Damage to fascia and soffits - water collecting in these area's will cause leaks into the house and rot the wood of the boards.

• Foundation - water pooling around the foundation can cause cracks and general damage.

• Moss and Algae - they both love moisture, so any leaking area's could become green and unsightly.

• Sagging gutters - The extra weight of the water in blocked gutters can cause the gutter to become dislodged and move. This makes them ineffective and causes more leakage.

• Plants and grass - Excessive water can cause problems for your garden.

The good news is, you can prevent this from happening with regular maintenance. It is recommended to have your gutters cleared annually - depending on the geographical location and environmental factors you may require a bespoke timeframe. Leaks are usually caused by; blocked gutters, this is generally identifiable by water overflowing from the top of the gutters edge, leaking joints when the seals are damaged or poorly positioned guttering.

At Hughes & Son Gutter Services, we undertake gutter clearance, repairs and full replacement, the cost of which is much, much cheaper than repairing any of the damage mentioned above!

We use a camera and extendable pole or ladders to inspect the gutters internally and look for any signs of leaks, then identify the cause. If you are happy with the quote we submit, we would the arrange a visit to carry out the work required.

On the day of the visit, we require access to a mains electricity socket for our vacuum. We clear the gutters, using our inspection camera as we go to ensure everything is perfectly clean. If any repairs need to be carried out, it would be done at this point. Before and after photos can be provided if requested at time of quote - these can be useful for reasons outlined above.
